PROJECT No. 105 – REPAIR ON THE CRACK IN CYLINDER SULZER RTA
Industry Marine
Problem Crack in the five (5) lids
Country Mexico
Project Goal
Status Completed
All lids were multiple times glued and repaired by a workshop that probably did not have strong soldering skills. Also, a large amount of sulfur was found in all lids indicating poor fuel quality. The cooling corridors and the 5 (five) lids were blocked and were found in poor condition.
Our technician cleaned all five (5) lids with the appropriate chemicals however he was able to repair only four (4) of them because the fifth (5) was found in very poor condition and showed a large, perforating crack.
The actions taken for the repair were as follows:
Cleaning with appropriate chemicals.
Pulley cleaning and grinding.
Milling, scrubbing, and crack cleaning.
Placement of resins and carbon fibers.
Placement of high temperature and flame-resistant epoxy resin.
